Florianópolis maternity hospitals: how to get admitted

Public and private: type, how to get admitted, rules for doulas. Only information with a source and the date checked. No rankings.

Checked:

This page collects the maternity hospitals of Florianópolis and neighboring São José for which sourced information exists. For each one we show where the information comes from and when it was checked.

Every family’s situation is different: in SUS the system usually assigns the maternity hospital, in a private clinic the family chooses it. Conditions change, so check them with the hospital itself before you decide.

How to read the table

  • How to get admitted: by referral, by contract or otherwise; the hospital sets the procedure

Rules for doula access

In Santa Catarina, public and private maternity hospitals must admit a doula at the woman’s request (Lei SC 16.869/2016). Each facility sets its own admission procedure, and the law provides for these documents: a letter of introduction, a copy of a photo ID, a description of the doula’s methods and the woman’s written consent. A doula does not perform medical procedures.

The rules of a specific hospital are given on its page, if they have been checked. If not, it’s worth asking in advance.

Medical information

Hospital conditions and rules change. The information is for reference, and each fact shows the date it was checked. Before the birth, confirm the procedure with the hospital itself. The information does not replace a doctor’s advice; in an emergency, call SAMU 192 (ambulance).

The directory is neither a ranking nor advertising. It is an independent project: it is not affiliated with hospitals or government bodies, and hospital names are given as reference information, not as a partnership. The information is gathered from open sources and may become outdated.
