How to get admitted

No charge to the patient. Prenatal care is usually provided at the local clinic (UBS); how to be admitted to this particular hospital is set by its own procedure.

What is allowed

By law, a woman has the right to a companion of her choice (Lei 14.737/2023) and to ask for a doula to be admitted (Lei SC 16.869/2016). These are two separate rights. How they work in this hospital is covered in the facts and in the doula section.

Doula access

A patient may invite a doula of her choice (in addition to a companion); this is stated on the hospital’s “Perguntas frequentes” page. The doula follows the hospital’s instructions: a link to materials for doulas is on the same page. Check the registration and admission procedure with the hospital in advance.

What I do

If the birth will be at this hospital: I’ll find out its procedure in advance, help prepare the doula’s documents and the birth plan, be beside you and interpret. Decisions about medical care are made by the hospital’s care team.

What to check before the birth

  • How to register and whether a referral is needed
  • Which documents to bring
  • How doula admission is arranged and how long before the birth
  • Whether both a companion and a doula can be present at once
  • What the rules are for companions in the operating room and intensive care

Medical information

Hospital conditions and rules change. The information is for reference, and each fact shows the date it was checked. Before the birth, confirm the procedure with the hospital itself. The information does not replace a doctor’s advice; in an emergency, call SAMU 192 (ambulance).

The directory is neither a ranking nor advertising. It is an independent project: it is not affiliated with hospitals or government bodies, and hospital names are given as reference information, not as a partnership. The information is gathered from open sources and may become outdated.
